Contraindications

According to the National Pesticide Information Center, “Pyrethrins are one of the least poisonous insecticides to mammals.” However, under certain conditions (amount of pyrethrum ingested or inhaled, person being allergic to pyrethrum, etc.) inhaling pyrethrins can cause headache, nausea, coughing, wheezing, stuffy nose, or difficulty breathing. Pyrethrins are toxic to fish and beneficial insects. Absorption of pyrethrum in the body is poor and it is not known to be excreted in the milk. Pyrethrins and pyrethroids are of low chronic toxicity to humans except those who are allergic to it. There is no carcinogenic status established for it.
Everything considered, it seems pyrethrum and its derivates are the safest insecticides on the market today.
